Tell us about Kadgam. Is this a message oriented movie?
Kadgam is not going to give any speeches on religions. We are trying to show that religion is one of the ways of living. There are some serious security issues in the country. Once i had to go to the border(LOC) on shooting. The place which is across our border and within the border was one, sometime ago. Standing at that point and looking across the border philosophically induced a thought in me. We regulary read about Pakistani ISI activities. This is an everyday news paper material. Those two when linked formed into the shape of Khadgam.
You are saying internal security? So is this a "desa bakthi" movie?
"DesaBakthi", Jathiya vadam" lanti pedda pedda maatalenduku (i dont want to use such heavy words like patriotism and nationality). Dont create an impression on this movie. Is this not our mere responsiblity to think about the idiots who breathe the air here, enjoy the land here and try to backstab it . I did a lot of research on the homeland security also and then only we did the screenplay. In order to give the cast a feeling of it, we conducted a workshop on this kind of issues even before the shooting and trained them mentally for that.
How do the keywords "hit and fail" play on you?
Direction is a ever learning process. If the movie is a hit you notice only few mistakes and if its a flop you see more mistakes. I always try to fix those mistakes and be a good learner. There is no formula for hit films. If there is any formula then no one will make a flop.
What movies inspired you to film industry
MayaBazar, Alluri SitaRama Raju and many more after that.
Violence will have a negative impact on the audience. Dont you think you are training them for violence ?
Every Hindu likes Ramayanam and MahaBhaaratham. They have violence in those great epics. Ravana took away Sita and what followed after that is a great war. Isnt that violence ? The violent nature of Lakshmana only prompted him to cut the nose and ears of Soorpanaka. Isnt it? Ramayana and Mahabharatha form the basis for any literature or epic. All these movies derived their story from those two epics. However the potrayals differ. I dont believe in people getting ruined or affected by movies. Its just a reason for those who are already ruined.
What is your defintion of "movie" as a movie goer ?
A 3 hour journey where you forget everything and travel along with it !! The driver for the journey is the director. Passengers should not feel bad and threatened about the journey. As a director, movies are self realization for me.
Which movie gave you more satisfaction as a director. Sindhuram. I produced the movie. The movie failed. I was pushed into financial problems. I dont care though. Though it failed me as a producer, it proved me as a director. As a director, I am completely satisfied with it.
